Orange County Firearms Safety Training understands you may have questions.  These are some of the most common question we receive.  If the question you have is not listed please feel free to contact me asking the question you may have.

Q. I have never shot a gun can I still learn from you?

A. It is perfectly fine that you have never shot a firearm.  The truth is it's easier for me to teach a person the right way to shoot a gun than it is for me to teach someone who has developed bad habits how to correctly fire a gun.

Q. I don't own a gun and I don't know what gun to buy can you help me find what I am looking for?

A. It is okay that you don't own a gun and don't know what gun to buy.  When a person buys a firearm they shouldn't do it on a whim.  If I teach you how to shoot we can go over the pros and cons of the different types of guns and I can help you decide what gun is best for you given your specific needs.

Q. I am afraid of guns is this normal when you teach a new student?

A. Yes, it is normal for a person to be afraid of guns.  The reason most people are afraid of guns is because they do not know much about them.  Having knowledge about firearms is very important in developing the confidence demanded in firearm ownership.  It is good to have a healthy respect for firearms.  Firearms are extremely dangerous if you do not know how to properly handle them.

Q. I have shot guns my whole life, so what can you do for me?

A. If you have shot guns your whole life and you shoot the "X" in the middle of the target every time than I can't do anything for you, but if you don't, I can make you hit the "X" every time.  I know that may not be believable, but I am confident in my abilities as a P.O.S.T. certified firearms instructor and I have seen positive results time and time again as a result of my firearm instruction.

Q. Can you help me learn how to protect myself inside my house if an violent person comes inside and is trying to use deadly force against me?

A.  Yes, but it is extremely important for you to understand I am not an attorney and I cannot give you legal advice.  It is also important for you to know that if you own a gun and you are not confident with it you will not be confident with it when you go to use it under stress.  I believe practice makes perfection and I can offer you the perfection you are looking for when it comes to firearms training.

Q. How long will it take me to go from having never shot a gun to being an expert marksman?

A. Everybody is different when it comes to firearms instruction.  Some people take longer than others to learn how to be able to confidently, accurately, and consistently fire a gun.  It really depends on how eager you are to learn and your level of experience.  The way I look at it is the less you know and the slower you are learning the more fun we get to have shooting.

Q. Will I be certified after I receive lessons from you.

A. No, I do not offer any types of certification.  I offer the people I teach the ability to learn how to become successful marksmen and the ability to learn the most valuable information of all, which is firearms safety.

Q. How much does it cost to receive lessons from OCFST?

A. OCFST prides itself on being affordable to the average income.  When it comes to firearms safety instruction the knowledge a person will learn is priceless.  OCFST charges $50.00 per hour if we meet in Orange County.  The student is responsible for any associate range costs.  The average shooting lesson takes 1 1/2 - 2 hours totaling $75 - $100 per lesson.  I can teach you the fundamentals of firearms safety in one session, but the the sky is the limit when it comes to firearms safety training.  We can teach you how to shoot one handled, in the dark, from a prone position, between targets while on the move, if that is desired, but it will obviously take more time and lessons to get to that level.

Q. I would like to learn with my son can we go together?

A. If you decide to have OCFST teach you and a family member, friend, or companion, how to shoot the second person will receive lessons for half the price, as long as the two of you learn at the same time.  However, it is important to know all of the associated range fees will still apply.  For more detailed information about how much the range fees are feel free to click on the link above pertaining to range contact information and contact the perspective range for further pricing.

Q. I would like to buy a hand gun how do I buy one?

A. Before you can purchase a handgun in the State of California you must obtain a handgun safety certificate.  To help you find the information you need and follow the proper steps please refer to this following website;
